What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance scheme provides eligible individuals a flexible, whole-of-life approach to the support needed to pursue their goals and aspirations and participate in daily life. The NDIS is designed for individual choice and control. It focuses on helping people to be part of the community and provides certainty they will receive the support they need over their lifetime.
What is the NDIA?
The NDIA stands for the National Disability Insurance Agency. It is the Government agency that implements, delivers, and manages the NDIS to ensure that people with disability get the support they need.
How can the NDIS help people living with cystic fibrosis?
The scheme is there to identify any supports you need to live the life that you choose and achieve your personal goals. This could be:
Living more independently, be it on your own or with family and friends
Being more active in your community and doing the things you love
Going to school or university
Finding and keeping a job
Increasing your social and economic participation
Improving your health and well-being.
You may be eligible to receive support if:
You are under 65
You are an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or New Zealand citizen who is a Protected Special Category Visa holder
You have a permanent or significant disability that requires help from others, equipment, or assistive technology
Or if you meet the early intervention requirements:
Your child is aged six or under and has a developmental delay
You or your child has a disability that is likely to be permanent and early supports would reduce how much help you or your child needs for the future.
All you need to do is contact the NDIS, phone 1800 800 110 or visit www.ndis.gov.au and complete an access request form to find out if you are eligible.
How do I make the most of my NDIS funding?
Cystic Fibrosis Queensland can support NDIS eligible people with the management of their funding supports and participation plan. You do not need us to do this for you to access our services and in fact, you might prefer to self-manage.
All NDIS fees and salaries are indexed by the Fair Work Commission and for current rates visit the NDIS Price Guide and Support Catalogue
We understand you want to get the most out of your NDIS package and receive high quality services for the best price.
That is why we align our pricing to the most up to date NDIS price guide. We promise to never charge an individual more than the NDIS price guide. The NDIA reviews the NDIS price guide regularly and sets prices that reflect wage inflation, market trends, and ensure the NDIS remains sustainable.
For questions about NDIS pricing and adjustments to your plan to allow for any price increases, speak with the National Disability Insurance Agency phone 1800 800 110.
If you are the parent or partner of a person living with cystic fibrosis and you support them with management of their chronic illness and clinical adherence, then you may be eligible for carers allowance.
There are also many online resources for you to access to support you in your role, a list of support services can be found here.
If you would like to speak confidentially to another cystic fibrosis parent or partner to share your lived experiences, please contact services to help you connect with the right person.
Direct payment and private health care
If you are not eligible for NDIS funding or wish to access a service or support that's not covered in your plan nor covered by your Cystic Fibrosis Queensland membership, you can pay for Cystic Fibrosis Queensland services directly with cash, debit or credit card. If you have private health insurance, you will need to keep your receipt and speak with them directly about potential reimbursement.
