The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has been running for more than eight years connecting people with disabilities to information and services, yet at Trusted Care, we are regularly contacted from people who say it is still too complicated to navigate without expert assistance.

Even though eight years might seem like a long time, for a national scheme to be set up from scratch like the NDIS, it is still very much an infant.

One of the great things about the NDIS is that is has been established to meet individual need and to provide recipients with choice and control. As no two people will have the exact circumstances. While are fortunate enough to now have a system that is person centric, the people who avail of NDIS supports may not always be able to navigate the system.

In addition, many of our clients are wonderful advocates for themselves but this doesn’t mean that they have the capacity or agency to understand and work their way through what is often a complex, bureaucratic process.

To top if off, our clients are sick and tired of being sick and tired! There are issues in the NDIS whereby people with lifelong disabilities are being asked to continually prove they still have that disability, people having funding declines with very little feedback, and people being asked what services they need without first receiving options available.

Trusted Care has developed some practical resources to help you start your NDIS journey:
